Hey darlin', I know this is a bad time to ask you about red things, but what kind of tomatoes were you wanting? I can't find my list.

I did a little after-plant-sale "shopping" today while I helped Donna, and I brought home: Italian Gold (a yellow Roma-type), Gardener's Delight (small slicing/eating red), Cherry Roma (not a clue, but it sounded cool), and Brown Berry (it's new to Donna too, but she says it's supposed to be a small sweet cherry type, just a funny color). And basil, if you fancy a bit.

And if you want mintish things, I'll probably be digging stuff Sat evening, to take up to camp, so digging extra for you would be no prob. Did I mention I had lime-scented peppermint?

The iris are in full bloom right now, and I keep forgetting to charge the batteries for the camera. Bad human, no cookie. From the road, it looks like ribbons of color--lavender and purple and white and burgundy, with splashes of yellows and pinks. 'Batik' had three whole flowers this year, and is finally a double-fan. Guess the genes that make the flowers stripey also make it a weak grower. 'Persian Berry' is just getting started, all rosey and purple; it's two clumps alrleady, and I planted it three years ago, just like the 'Batik'. I may give 'Batik' to Donna, she has more room for stuff that needs to be babied.

Brought another four flats home from the greenhouse today--bits of this and that, some tomatoes and leeks and onions and chard. And 'Saffron' squash--I have no idea what that's supposed to do, but it sounded cool and it didn't sell at the plant sale, so a bit of that followed me home. Ooooo, and malabar spinach, so I need to set strings for it to climb......

I got most of this load planted this afternoon, and some of the stuff still on the deck in the ground, and moved the lavender in the pennisula bed before the oregano thyme eats it. Pulled all the yarrow out of the raised bed I built last year, put it between the iris, and started moving my mini roses into the raised bed and away from the thymes. The very happy thymes, which are spreading abundantly, and even self-sowing. Never had thyme self-sow before, but hey, it's free plants. Will probably take the extra sage and thyme seedlings out to camp and fill in some of the holes in that herb bed.

By & crew did wood-busting out at Robyn's Sat, and got it hauled to camp, and got a good start on building cribs for bonfires on Sun. I & one of the wives weeded the herb garden while they were at it. Not done with the herb garden, but it's better. By & I took a load of pallets up this evening, to stack wood on, so it "won't kill the grass". (Don't ask me, it's not my rule.)

Tomorrow is "my" day...a little gardening, clean up, do some string, and generally rest.

Eight working days until vacation. *sigh*
