Work work work
May. 7th, 2004 11:42 am'Tis the season. It's 8 work days (for me) until graduation here, and 9 work days until my vacation time. And of course, way too much to do in that time.
Pruned yesterday, and showed New Boss around the tree trail. Very exciting. C watered trees, which was worse. The wind died down a bit this morning, so I was outplaying in traffic spraying curb lines at 6am. I managed to procrastinate away the rest of the morning--go me! This afternoon is take-it-easy time...I have to paint a line around the freshly-mowed prairie, to hopefully indicate to our brilliant mower operators that that area is not to be mowed again this season, and then I get to water vinca. Oooooo. Aahhhhhh.
Did a little salvaging in building trash this morning--another nice 3-ring binder, and another hardhat (I'd found one in the trash this time last year, too). Good timing on the hard hat--By's rousting people for wood-busting tomorrow, and they'll need that.
There were 30 people outside the greenhouse door at 8:45 this morning, waiting to get into the plant sale at 9am. Nathan said that there'd been people outside since 8am. New Boss said it was pretty picked over and still full of people when he went over there at 10:30. Hopefully that means Donna sold lots of stuff, and will have lots of money to buy plants and equipment with.
By worked for Robyn on Wed & Thurs, getting ready for today. The gallery is open from noon to 9pm, for the Mother's Day crowd, there's a First Friday exhibit of graduating seniors' portfolios in the event room, and some sort of lawyers' party on the top floor. No, I don't expect to see him tonight.
Been gardening, rather than doing my string hobbies. Got half of the bed below the deck cleaned out, and the basil planted, and that little clematis seedling from Betty planted. I'm up to 8 ornamental pots on the deck, which ought to look really cool in a few weeks as they fill in. And the iris show is underway--purples and whites right now, plus the first peach that opened last night, and the "Stepping Out" (white with purple edges) that I got from Donna. And the "Quail" and "Thalia" daffs still look good--with the grass mowed, you can even see them from the road!
I'm hoping to get more gardening done tonight. I have most of a flat of Verbena bonairiensis to tuck into the iris beds, and sages and thymes to move. I've put it off this week in order to get the pots done, and because I knew I would't have time to daily water the moved perennials until after today.
Amusing thought for the day: Maintenance Supervisor asked me this morning where I was going on vacation, and then wanted to know where I was camping...I gave my standard answer, which is "a private campground north of Tonganoxie". Would you believe that not only did he know the place, but he'd been there when it was a nudist camp in the 70's??? Too funny.
