Still cooking

I've already got another batch of sugar-free pear butter in one slow cooker, a batch of the apple-kiwi honey (modified, since I'm out of kiwi) on the stove, and the first of the 5-gal buckets in the kitchen.

I have used up both of the 2-gal buckets of pears; 15 gallons to go. Yikes.

I plan to do one more batch of pear butter, without apple juice this time, and then start cleaning the kitchen for wine. Maybe some mead, too. I have more honey now. We'll see what I feel up to. It'd be nice to retake control of my kitchen from the mountains of fruit which are now running the show.

Time to cash that reality check

Much as I'd like to go ahead and do the pear wine tonight, it's just not going to happen.

I just finished getting the first 5-gal bucket of pears chopped and into the slow cooker for pear butter. So, probably an hour until it's soft, then 15-20 minutes to run it all through the blender, then another two hours (I hope) until it's cooked down, and then an hour or so to hot-process it all.

I will instead rest, eat some lunch, and think about cleaning the kitchen in between stirrings and processing. If the kitchen's clean, it won't take too long tomorrow to throw some pear wine and apple mead together, and that'll take care of the rest of the fruit in the laundry room and in the fridge.
