I am officially tired of pears
Oct. 29th, 2003 06:52 amGot the last batch of pear butter done last night, only slightly singed. Cinnamon covered the faint burnt flavor. It was just too large a batch to cook down at once. Um, 11 pints from that batch. I ought to do a final tally for the weekend.
The kitchen finally looks like a kitchen rather than a jelly factory.
Tonight's goal: pear wine, and using up the rest of the pears. Wine doesn't require the chopping and peeling that the butter did--just cut out the bad parts, make it fit in the juicer, and let the machine do the rest.
The Unsock Report: Finished the right side/sleeve of the Round Trip sweater last night. With great self-restraint, I managed to NOT start picking up stitches for the other side. I would have been up all night if I'd done that. It looks good on, feels like it'll be nice and warm. I modified the sleeve some, made the decreases closer together and the sleeve itself shorter, with a narrower cuff. And ribbing instead of the garter stitch edge, because the garter stitch edge was too loose and floppy.
The Sock Report: I'd meant to bring the Timber Frame socks with me to work on over lunch, but they didn't make it out to the car today. oh, well.
Must remember to practice tonight too, if my hands are up to it. I still hurt from chopping pears all weekend.
