Weekend in a nutshell

Sat was blissfully quiet at work--pulled weeds in the morning, goofed off with Donna all afternoon, snuck out early to go get free yarn--what could be better?
I must admit, I've got mixed feelings about the yarn. While I'm thrilled beyond belief at having it, I'm saddened by Myrna's reasons for cleaning out her stash. See, she's trying to get the house cleaned out and everything in order before Stan dies. They know it's coming, it's cancer, and the doctors told him they can't operate. Stan & Myrna are very sweet people, even bigger plant geeks than I am (yes, it's possible!), and they've been married almost 60 years. Stan's holding up okay, he's gardening a lot; Myrna looks like she's about to cry all the time. Can't say as I blame her.
I think I'm going to dig through the new stash and make a pair of prayer shawls for each of them.
Sunday was uneventful; we got up late, took the recycling to Lawrence, did a little shopping until the rain passed, came home and knitted. I knitted; By's working on his projects. Silly me. I'm trying very hard to finish one of the pre-existing projects BEFORE diving in to the new yarn.
Was going to garden Monday, but everything was too wet. We did a stock-up run to Sam's, and puttered. Nothing exciting.
I'm almost up to the armhole shaping on the beige sweater. Finally. I'll be knitting the thign twice, but I only get one sweater for my trouble. *sigh* That'll teach me to be more careful about gauge. Anyway, another week's knitting on this, and then I can start on my blue birthday kit.
