Sep. 22nd, 2005 07:16 amTwo days of pollen-induced allergies are kicking my butt today. And I've got to go back out in the tallgrass for at least another hour today, dammit.
The Dayquil hasn't kicked in yet.
Was tired and miserable enough that I didn't do anything crafty last night. Well, got two rows knitted on the shawl, but that took an hour, so I'm not sure it counts.
Am trying to stay reasonably clean this morning--am going to my last Hospitality Management luncheon as a grounds person today, and the boss warned us to be clean and presentable, so as not to embarass him.
Starting to think about what shopping I need to do for myself before I start the greenhouse job. Jeans, I've got. I was hoping that last uniform order would come in before I switched, but it looks like that's not going to happen. Oh well. I'd like to get some new t-shirts, something besides grounds grey. And insoles for my shoes. I'm not used to standing on concrete, and that's going to hurt the first couple of days. And maybe a smallish radio/cd player, 'cuz on Saturdays I'll be in there by myself.

Date: 2005-09-22 02:25 pm (UTC)You can get into a Shuffle for $99, and by the time you realize that you want more space, you can start saving up for a bigger one. You can get podcasts, and also you can suck NPR shows onto it that you don't normally have time to listen to--they offer them for download, in many cases.
And then you too will have caught the addiction and we'll all be rockin' the iPod together.
Also, the cool thing about the shuffle for working in the greenhouse is that you can buy a case for it that completely encloses it (the shuffle doesn't have a clickwheel, it has a multi-function sort of rocker switch, and the case has a rubber thing that goes over it) and is relatively waterproof, with a lanyard to go around your neck. The shuffle works like a memory stick, with a USB connector in the base that you just plug into your machine. And iTunes comes with it, and you can load all the music you own now into iTunes and then select what you want to feed onto the shuffle on any given day.

Date: 2005-09-22 07:12 pm (UTC)I'm trying to be careful of spending until I get the formal letter from HR, with the job offer and pay scale. I don't know yet if I'm taking a pay cut to make this move. (Yes, I'll be moving anyway, because it will be so beneficial in the long run.)
