There and back again
Nov. 26th, 2010 10:05 amNot our best holiday. Too many stresses at the table with us. Chief among them, Grandma is not doinf well, refuses to take her insulin, and is sliding downhill. And there's very little any of us can do, short of putting her in a nursing home, and there's no money for that.
But the food was good, everybody at least sampled my new cranberry relish, and we got the hedge pruned off Mom's house, so that was something. The Miss was quirky and mostly charming, and demonstrated her counting ability for Mom--she'll rattle off numbers up to six if she's in the mood. The Bug was cranky most of the day and wouldn't eat, because his molars are stil not in.
Mom's about fot the business with the school board worked out, and she and her colleagues will be getting all the money owed them. She's feeling accomplished and relieved--it's been a year-long fight and a fair part of that she was the school board's chief whipping boy, because no one else was brave enough to put their name on the papers. But it's done.
Got to see the top for the flannel quilt Mom is making for The Miss. It's bright pastel greens and blues and yellows, in a very cheerful pinwheel pattern, and she loves it already.
Am planning to take it easy today. I've got needlework to finish for gifting, and maybe bake some bread. If I'm feeling really brave, I'll dig out a blunt needle and start teaching The Miss to sew. But only after they've bounced off some of yesterday's hours in the carseats.
