Contractor called this morning, saying that he can't get any of his crew to show up because it's too cold to work, and that he won't be here. Oh, and NONE of his crew know anything about the broken stairs. Which is funny, because someone made two attempts to make a half-assed fix on it, so SOMEONE knew it was buggered.

After I threw a fit, he's coming out by himself to fix the stairs enough to get through the day. There is some debate as to whether or not he realizes that we are holding him responsible for fixing the stairs properly.

And, if he gives me too much lip about it this morning, I get to tell him to grab his tools and hit the road. And I have a list of what tools are his.

Contractor is out there fixing the step, grumbling, and insisting that he doesn't know how it happened, but one of his people isn't answering her phone, so..... Even after being shown the two nails someone had tried to fix it with. I've officially hit my "can't believe shit he says" limit. He stays on the job, for now, but he understands we're Not Happy.

The stairs are fixed for now, Contractor has left, and was ...humbled...when he left. He still insists that he didn't know anything about the break or how it happened until I called him last night, which I don't believe at all. He's blaming it on the one person on his crew who hadn't answered their phone when he called around asking about it this morning. Whatever.

He said that he's pleased with the way the siding turned out on the south side, enough that he's thinking about tearing off and re-doing what his "siding specialist" did on the east side. I'm not going to hold my breath on that one, even though he is right.

He also let slip that his "siding specialist", who is a nephew, has been talking to most of Salvage Guy's regular help about us, and has convinced most of them that he was in the right over that crap, and we're impossible to work for. Because most of SG's regular help aren't any brighter than his siding specialist, and are easily swayed by bombastic repetition.

But that does mean that he's having trouble getting a crew for our project, because we have standards and hold them accountable.
