The contractor strikes back
Nov. 4th, 2010 04:26 pmArgh.
Most of the south end of the house has siding, excepting two smallish pieces at the very top. I should have gone around to see if the missing three pieces on the south-west corner got done, but I didn't.
The kitchen window has been removed, the framing fixed, and replaced. This involved much mess in my kitchen, Salvage Guy stacking dirty dishes on clean without asking, and waking both kids from their naps.
And, as I found out the hard way, my deck stairs are broken. Specifically, the support holding up the steps is broken underneath the second step, so it's flapping in the breeze. No idea how he did that, it was fine this morning. But I'm profoundly unhappy about finding it by falling on it, and even more unhappy if he didn't tell me because he wasn't watching his people.
He's not going to have a good morning tomorrow.
Migraine still in effect, which means that short naps and grumpy kids are *exactly* what I need, on top of pounding all day.

Nov. 4th, 2010 06:27 pmSo our ace contractor swears up and down that he did not know that the stair was broke when he left, and doesn't have any idea how it happened, or why his crew did not tell him. And, because of where it's broken, there's no way you would have done it and not noticed--the stringer that holds the step in place is broken, and that end of the step is flapping in the wind. So Albert's had at least two ass-chewings today, from me and from his wife (i called his house trying to find him and figure out what's going on, and she asked), and probably from Byron too. And his whole crew is getting reamed first thing in the morning. I am so fucking sick of this shit.
And even more nonsense from the contractor
Nov. 4th, 2010 08:51 pmWho swore up and down to By on the phone tonight that he didn't know how the step got broke or when. Except that, if nothing else, he had to go up the steps to come in the back door and check in before he left, and go back out the same way. So, hmmmmmmm.
By thinks, looking at the steps, that they dropped something heavy on them. Besides the broken stringer, the next stair tread going down has a big piece missing off a corner. I suspect it happened when they were getting the kitchen window redone; there were suspicious noises and swearing about then. I just felt too miserable this afternoon to go out and check. And as soon as that window went it, he hi-tailed out of here. And that fits, too.
And somehow, he's managed to run completely out of j-channel to finish the siding, without bothering to tell us he was running low. That's a special order, so it's 2 weeks until that comes in.
By's planning to go out tonight and leave notes stapled to things that need fixing, because there are others. Salvage Guy's plans of what he thinks he's going to accomplish tomorrow are about to be completely derailed to fixing his screw-ups and building me a new goddamn set of steps.
If I'm lucky, he'll get here early (for him, which means before 9:30) tomorrow and By will get to read him the riot act.
