It's 7:08am, and I haven't bitten anyone yet. That in itself is a wonder.

New Boss has already stepped on what few nerves I had left over from last week, by paging me at 6:45!!!! to tell me about a meeting Maintenance Director had wanted to have yesterday. Which I attended for you, thank you very much.

I gave New Boss his first earful this morning, starting with "You told me you'd make sure the tree trail was mowed for that tour, and it wasn't." Grrrrrr.

Head Carpenter told one of the guys to be patient, because New Boss will either not be around that much longer, or be forced to shape up (with the attendant supervision and oversight of ALL of the other maint supervisers). While this is good news, I really wish this place would work to head off this kind of problem, instead of waiting for the problem to become a monster.

In other news, other than the requested mowing not happening, the tour went fairly well. Just a few people there, all plant geeks. I was terribly terribly disappointed in the greenhouse tour: any greenhouse tour has to go past the kumquat tree for a taste, and all of the guests liked the damn things! *sigh* Spoiled all my fun. One of the guests actually recognized my Eucommia ulmoides, and they all knew the name and appreciated the trees for the triumph of plant geekery that they are. (Okay, so I'm not the only person in town who has them anymore. But I've got two!) One of the tour guests is the purchasing manager of my favorite nursery, and damn, he's good. Knows just what buttons to push--in my case, weird/unusual plants, like the red oak/willow oak hybrid he just got in (I'm still salivating at the thought), and a sandalwood-scented hardy bamboo that I am sooooo tempted by. Bet I could sneak that one into my budget.....

Looks like By's going to do a bit more salvaging. Albert's got a house he's doing up by UMKC, that got all kinds of bookshelves in it, and he's already earmarked the shelves for us if we want them. Albert's also cleaning out a grocery store over in Blue Springs right now, groceries and all. He was trying to give us one of the open-top chest coolers last night, "just put a top on this baby and you've got a chest freezer." Sorry, but the design committee veto'd chest freezers years ago.

By got paid yesterday, along with a note saying there was money in the account, so go ahead and deposit it. *whew* He's working on getting things ready for a show in Crown Center this weekend. He doesn't have to help or take it down, it's not that big a show.

Oh, nearly forgot....those of you who're familiar with Robyn's work: remember the dandelion place setting? It got into a show at the Cooper-Hewitt. Not sure when that goes up, but it's a very big deal, and they're excited. The piece may be sold too, so be sure to visit next time the gallery's open.
