Jan. 29th, 2005 08:16 amIt snowed again. A much more manageable snow this time, but still more than I wanted to do at work today. Been shovelling stairs and handicap access ramps since I go here. Blech. Been off kilter for two days now...think it's that stomach bug that By was fighting off last weekend. And I can't go home sick, even though I probably ought to, because 1) it'd look bad, and 2) The Other Dave called in absent with personal issues last night, and won't be in, so we're short-handed. (Not that The Other Dave calling in absent is a surprise, just a surprise that he's started blatantly weaselling out of snow duty.)
Am very irritated with the high mucky-mucks at work. First, they told us that a bunch of trees (small, easily replacable trees) would need to be moved for the construction of the new building. So we go that ready, started getting pricing, and they changed their minds. Okay, pitch that report. Yesterday, just before lunch, the contractor told my boss that trees would need to be moved or removed so some utilities could go in. So, I start calling for pricing on moving them, again. After lunch, the boss tells me he's met with Vice President, who said we HAD to have those same trees back in their original places after the construction was finished. So, rather than simply moving them, planting them, and putting new ones in after construction is finished, we dig these up, have them balled and burlapped, store them in the mulch pile until the utility work is done, and then put them back, and hope they live. Gak. My boss is very sympathetic, and says the VP has "big warm stiffy for those particular trees." I SO did not need that mental picture in my head all day yesterday.
