Drove to the farm in Neosho on Sunday, to see how much damage was done by the strom a couple of weeks back, and make a general report for By's folks on the condition of the place. Three of the big oaks we were married under are on the ground now; the guy that rents the pasture is working on cleaning them up for firewood/timber. Half of the old chicken coop, just into the pasure, was smashed, but the rest is ok, and an old, old black walnut JUST missed the house. I think the folks are trying to decide what to do with the property--it needs more than occasional maintenance, and none of the family are close enough to do that. We've talked about moving down there once or twice, and By's uncle and his wife have too, but there's always the "no jobs nearby" to stumble over. While the guys (By & his uncle) were looking at the sheds, Patty & I dug up mimosa and maple seedlings. Eeek. Need to get those out of the bucket and into the ground today. Oops.
Even fore-warned, we were amazed at the number of ticks out there. Allan and Patty both changed clothes completely before leaving, and still ended up pulling ticks off before they got into the truck. We were using the 23% Deet bug spray from work, and still finding them on us, even when we got home. *shakes head* That'd be a definte problem for By if he were to go down and work on fixing things.
Got caught in road construction on the way home. Blech. By decided to get off the road (since we were coming into the city about 6pm) and wait out traffic, so we stopped at Barnes and Noble and walked around a bit. Too much temptation. Made it out of there under $10 (only 2 books, both off the bargain table).
Cleaned house yesterday morning, and F spent his day off visiting and talking yesterday afternoon/evening/night (he left at 3am). Was a good time. He's going to be homeless come August, because of issues with the current roommates. We made the offer, half in jest, "if all you want's a room, you willing to mow the yard for it?" He's willing to mow, and help By build sheds, so this might work. We shall see, and start cleaning out the junk room, because it needs doing regardless.
Terry's not gotten back to By about when the work he needed By for was supposed to start, so By's finishing some stuff for Robyn today. Probably a good thing he's inside and sitting down today, because By was up until 1 am talking, too.
