A very good day
Aug. 4th, 2003 11:13 amThe sock report: I finished Ranj's socks yesterday afternoon, in between rounds of cards with
classics_cat. Even got it scanned in (several times, it's too long to fit on the scanner in one go). I want to make a little booklet to give to Ranj, with the meanings of the symbols on the socks, but that can wait. They're done, they're delivered. That's the important part.
Saturday was boring--campus was very very quiet, I knit and watered trees. Woop-de-do. End of story.
Yesterday was lovely. Got up, By fixed this scrumptious sausage and provalone cheese and spinach omlette, with toasted croissants on the side. And just as we were getting ready to tuck in,
classics_cat arrived, so we divvied breakfast up a bit and fed her too. Good food and good conversation, cheerful snarking, cards--what better way to spend the day?
As I mentioned above, I finished Ranj's socks, so
classics_cat could take them home with her, and got some ideas for the socks I'm going to do for her. A Greek pattern, we decided. Hey, darling, think you could come up with my name, and the year, rendered in the Greek alphabet? I'll sign your socks in Greek for true geek-dom.
I made lots and lots of progress on the tied-up tee while we were talking. Finished the back, sewed the shoulders together, took a deep breath (this is where the last sweater I tried failed, 3 times), and tried it on. It fit! It looks good! There was much rejoicing. So, I tucked into the sleeves, and hope to finish those today. I might actually finish all three projects this weekend.
Next up, I need to dig out Ranj's foot measurements again, and upsize the sprial rib socks for him (don't you dare tell him,
classics_cat, I want to surprise him!), and work a pair in the leftover green and yellow yarn.
I'm contemplating a tunic-style sweater, worked in squares set on point ("domino knitting", a la Vivian Hoxboro). It'd be a good way to use up the various red bits of yarn I've acquired, and mix with some of the rayon chenilles I've picked up at Yarn Barn. I think I've got the design figured out; it's time to start swatching. Maybe if I get my other knitting done this weekend....I did finish one project already, so a new project is a fair reward *grin*
