First, I haven't really had a relaxing weekend since, oh, March. So I most sincerely did not want to go to work today.

My flower order hadn't arrived yet, might be in by Friday. Gak. The nursery still doesn't have the Shumard oak they put on backorder for me back in March; I finally gave in and subbed a red oak. It will do.

I got pulled off my planting and tidying projects to go spend 4 hours cleaning up a bed of ornamental grasses that Nemesis should have cleaned up back in late Feb or early March. Note: this is an inner campus project. I was told years ago by Maintenance Director that I would not be asked to do things on inner campus again, it wasn't my responsibility to clean up things that Nemesis can't be bothered to do on time. BUT, since this was where they were having the Foundation dinner, it had to be perfect, and they couldn't find Nemesis to make him go do it, so I had to. Yes, I'm still pissed about that. I still itch from the grasses.

All the Evil Empire Walmart had by way of potting soil was Miracle-Gro brand, or the Walmart brand, neither of which I'm super thrilled with. But I got the MG stuff, 'cuz I needed something to fill pots with. Moderate good news: they had Sunsprite roses, decent looking ones in 1-gal pots, for $6.50. That made me feel a little better. And the silly blond at the checkout only rang up one of my bags of soil, not both.

When I get home, there's a note from Byron on the stove: "The door to the back bathroom is barricaded to keep the cats from playing with the pair of black snakes that were sticking out from under the wall around the hot water heater. I didn't feel up to dragging 2 snakes out by their tails while alone. Will tend to it later."

*sigh*

Sometimes, a girl just has to call her momma and cry about her day. Then mom cried to me about her day....more drama and hysteria at her school, about the foster kid that was taken out of a blatantly unqualified home, whose former foster parents blame the school and are suing.

And on top of all that, Mom told me tonight that because of the No Child Left Behind Act, she is no longer a qualified teacher. (?!?!??!) Apparently, despite her master's degree in elementary ed, because she doesn't have a "specialty" in any of the subjects she's teaching (which I guess amounts to a minor in science, or math, etc), she's not qualified. The mind boggles.

Ah. By just got home. The world is better.

Later.

One of the other teachers in her wing of the grade school is solving the problem by taking early retirement, but Mom, while eligible, just can't afford to do that. I guess there is a test she can go take, so see if she's "qualified", but gee whiz. She's only been doing that job for 30 years, I think she knows what she's doing by now.....

The Shrub's education policies have finally turned my mom into a democrat. Now that's power.
