Sunday: Went to HSA meeting out at Gaea. Very exciting--not. Getting up the hill to the pavillion with a sore back was exciting, though. Got lots knitted on the maple leaf shawl (an old UFO) during the meeting. A & K came over for dinner and conversation after the meeting, which was nice. We got some of the group meal planning done.

Monday: Gardened. I've got as much of the iris beds cleaned out now as I did all of last year, which is cool. Stuff's starting to bloom--Verbascum phoenicum, ox-eye daisies, the last of the daffs & muscari. Knitted a bit more in the evening.

Tuesday: By finished mowing around the iris beds (hitting some of the iris in the process), got the yard between the house & garage mowed, and started on the front yard. Wow. It's not even May yet. I moved some perennials, and cut back some of my sages. I found thyme seedlings hiding under the edge of the sages--I've never had thyme self-sow before, so this is cool. And more sage seedlings, very convenient, as I was wanting a few to take out to Gaea to replace what's in the herb garden there. Cat came over in the afternoon, and we chatted and did string things. Never did find the baggie of tatting shuttles that I was looking for, but my table is mostly cleaned off. Oh, and my first half-dozen iris opened...all that dark blue-purple kind.

Knitting Update: I FINISHED SOMETHING!!!! whew. As of 10pm last night, the Stonington shawl is officially done, and there was great rejoicing. I wa getting a little sick of that edging. It's huge--5' on a side, and that's before blocking.

Next up is the maple leaf shawl--I've had that on the needles for nearly a year, and I'm not that far from done. I could have that done by Heartland. I also need to have By reach down more of the cotton yarn so I can finish the Cleo halter top I started for this spring/summer. That'd be nice to wear for Heartland.

*applause*

Hooray for finishing something!! *dances the great rejoicing dance* I've been dreaming about your shawls ever since you described one as a mass of cobwebs draping from your needles (the mental image gives me most delightful shivers).

I'm trying to roll my sense of accomplishment over to making progress on another, largre UFO (my brother's "wedding present" afghan - which will likely end up being a 5th anniversary gift at this point. *blush*)

The iris aren't blooming here yest (not much is, but we have accomplished GREEN), but I find that I look for them as a sign of spring truly having arrived - not the tease of spring that could fall back to snow any day now.

and *hug* just 'cause.

This one is less cobwebby than the previus ones out of this yarn....still grey yarn, but a more substantial fabric. This one looks like a shawl before blocking, and will look like a lacy shawl after blocking.

Re: UFO's....I've found that the "I just finished something" energy is often the spur I need, if not to finish a long-languished project, then to at least make enough progress to not feel guilty about starting something else. That's not going to be much help on the Tigger afghan; that's just too much of a pain. The looming deadline will be the "must finish" motivation for that one.

And thanks for th hugs. I've been needing those lately.

Yes we do need firewood help. At the moment the firetenders are short on people to tend the fires during fest as well as to bust all the wood prior to the festival. I will be working on wood here at the house this weekend and then on the 8th and 9th we will be doing a group cutting and hauling session out in Excelsior Springs. You now have 2 options for cheap entry into festival. The first is to pay your $20 and become a member and put in your time, the second is to write a chack for $75 that won't be cashed and do work exchange. The check don't get cashed unless you fail to put in your time. If Rand is wanting to attend fest as well you might let hime know that there are positions open for people as well, not just in firetenders either.

I'll be available this weekend for stuff. Suppose this means I'll have to give in and actually join HSA, huh? Ah, well, there's worse things...
