goddam dog owners

Called 911 on Mr UpHill's dog this morning. Dogs, plural, this time; the same boxer we've had trouble with (and called the cops on) this summer, plus the two dogs the son brought with bim when he (unfortunately) moved back in.
The kids and I were in the play yard when the dogs swept through, and acted aggressive enough that I hustled the kids into the greenhouse and held the door closed. I called Mr UpHill and told him he had 10 min to come get his dogs or I would call the cops. I could hear the son yelling for the dogs from the front door, while the dogs were loomking at me through the window of the door and ignoring him. So I said to heck with that, and called.
I; sure I'm going to get another visit from the guy, whining about how his dogs aren't bad dogs, and I'm just over-reacting. Fuck that. Dog charges me, it's aggressive, and I'm not going to stand there waiting to be bitten.
Unfortunately, the sherif can't do anything about the dog until it does bite someone. But the nice deputy who came today says that if I or the kids are threatened by the dog while on my property, I have the right to shoot the dog. And, the nice deputy was headed up the hill to tell Mr UpHill that very thing. Maybe it'll help. Naw, that's expecting too much.
It's not the dogs' fault that they've been mishandled and left to form packs and run wild, but they're the ones who'll pay for their humans' mistakes.
