Notes to myself, on painting doll parts

When painting cloth doll parts, to get the delicate tinted fabric effect on already-stuffed parts, use 5 parts paint to 4 parts water, mix well, and apply *lightly* with a *dry* brush. It'll take 3 or 4 coats to get a smooth, even color. Dry brush between strokes of paint. If it's too wet when you apply, it will soak in through the doll, and the colors in the paint will separate, and then you'll have to gesso and cover it.
Let it dry completely before doing another coat or turning the piece over to do the other side. Especially before doing the other side.
Note that paint applied this way comes out a couple shades lighter than it does on parts that have been gessoed then painted. And the doll has a softer hand, versus the full heavy paint.
I haven't decided how I'm going to do the hair on the tinted dolls. I've seen some with embroidered hair (either bullion knots to simulate curls, or tufted stitches), and I've also got ideas for a wig cap with braids.
