Can't nap, might as well type
Aug. 27th, 2003 10:56 amArgh. Getting up for work at 5 am after going to bed at 12:30 is not a good idea. I don't recommend it. At least, Courtney's off today, so I get to rest in the water truck. It's been a completely crappy day so far. In about 28 hours, I go on vacation, and I really need it.
Our turf guy called the water district yesterday, who says that Overland Park does not anticipate going on water restrictions unless on of the pumps breaks down. One less thing to worry about, then. Besides that, I'm told that, if we are handed water restrictions, there is a place in Olathe where we can take a truck and buy water relatively cheaply.
I've finally got the heel on the toe-up Timberframe Socks where it needs to be, and just as important, I remembered to stop and write down what worked, so I don't have to reinvent the heel all over again for the second sock. I'm slowed today because I forgot my clipboard with the chart for the colorwork, and I've changed color enough it's a little hard to keep track of what's going where.
Stan's afghan is coming along nicely. It's about 15" deep now. I plan to work on it some tonight, then put it away until after Laid Back; those yarns aren't as durable when it comes to removing grass and weed seeds and other dead plant bits.
The Maple Leaf Shawl is about 14" square, at 70-odd rounds into the piece. After rnd 86, I either have to fnish off the corners for a large, lacy wool handkerchief, or commit to at least 40 more rounds to extend the pattern one repeat. It looks like I'm getting 8 inches per pattern repeat (which interlock as diamonds, rather than stacking), the the pattern as is calls for two repeats. I've still got lots more of the burgundy cone yarn, maybe even enough to take it out 4 pattern repeats--but that would require much more time per round, and a longer needle. Right now, a round takes about 15 min, and the 340 sts fit on a 16", #4 needle. I'd be thrilled if I could get close to finishign this one during Laid Back; it's giving me all kinds of ideas.
I just remembered where the clipboard full of patterns ended up. Duh! I packed it in the "knitting to go" box already. Exscuse me whlie I go get this blonde moment out of my system.
