The unSock Report and other updates
Aug. 26th, 2003 08:21 amSaturday I skipped out of work a little early and we ranto Lawrence for dyes, as
classics_cat and
ranjtheobscure were planning coming over for food and fiber things. She'd got some neat undyed clothes from Dharma, and now they're a range of lovely hues and textures.
We're starting the packing for Laid Back. Since R & M are attending, we're doing the cat hair decontam of all our bedding and clothes. R is much more fun when his allergies aren't acting up. By and K (one of hte people we came with)have the meals planned out already, so we're just about ready to go.
We're still waiting on the guy who borrowed the fire pokers to bring them back. They went out for the Aries Rising event July 4, and were supposed to come back that Sunday. Then, they were going to come back a couple of weeks ago. I sent an email to the guy who has them, saying we need them back, and was informed I was, and always had been rude to him.
To quote his email: "The reality is that all of your emails have been rather rude. Please look at that. There was never any need to be, and that attitude is part of what delayed the pokers return. I'm sorry that we couldn't get off on a better foot. I really like your husband."
Fine, fuck you. Comments and attitude like that will adversely affect the loaning of tools in the future, and not just the pokers, but also important things like the log splitter.
For the record, here's the email he was replying to:
"Not to be rude or anything, but you didn't return the fire pokers the
weekend of Aug 9 as you said you would, and we MUST have them back for
Laid-Back. If you are attending Laid Back, you could meet us out there
with them on Thursday; otherwise, we need them back at our place by
Wednesday night.
If you want to call and discuss arrangements for their return, our number
is (913) 724-3380, no phone calls after 9pm. "
Now, what part of that was out of line, I don't know. Terse, yes, maybe a bit fed up. And we always tell people not to call after 9pm.
We were awakened this morning by the phone--Robyn calling to say she'd spent all weekend taking care of her mother, and didn't have anything ready for By to do in studio. So, we get some quality and chore time together today.
Haven't picked up the Timberframe socks since Sat evening. I need to spend some quality time figuring out the heel, which doesn't stretch like it's supposed to when in that gauge. I've ripped and reknitted the heel 5 times now, and just am not getting something that fits right.
But that's okay, because the other projects I started this week are doing better. Stan's afghan is 14" long now and about 48" wide). I can't work very long on it at one time; my hands just aren't used to those big needles (#13's).
Sat night I just couldn't help myself, and started another lace shawl. We'd been to Yarn Barn to get dyes for Sunday's activities, and I was really tempted by some lace-weight wools. A more rational head (By's) prevailed, and I left them there. Once home, I found this cone of fine burgundy yarn Myrna had given me last winter; she had thought it was acrylic, and I hadn't looked that closely at it because of that. After two burn tests, and splicing it together 3 times via the "lick and stick" trick, we're pretty sure it's all wool. And now, it's on it's way to becoming the Maple Leaf Shawl I got the pattern for last month. I'm going to need to enlarge the pattern if I want a useful size--at 64 rnds, I'm getting a (slightly stretched) radius of about 6". and that's about a third of the pattern. It's not going to be slips-through-a-wedding-ring fine, but it will be the largest, finest bit of lace knitting I've done so far.

Date: 2003-08-27 09:30 am (UTC)Something By & I were asking each other last night while discussin this with Ashe is: how many of the people who werre wanting to borrow these tools realize that they rae our personal property, and not HSA's.
And By says he's not worried about it, given how reactionary the fellow in question has been in his emails and responses to the HSA list.
By & I have decided that the tools won't be loaned out again, and when asked, we will tell the asker exactly why. We're not that worried about political fallout, cuz Mr Jerkoff is solidly a member of the former President of HSA's firetending clan, and therefore already at odds with Ashe's firetenders.
Gee, this is beginning to sound like SCA politics, isn't it?
