Nine weeks to the plant sale, as of tomorrow, so 11 weeks to Heartland. Gak. But, spring break is the week after next. That's a thing to look forward to.

Between seeding and greenhouse stuff and class stuff and the grading that I'm putting off, I'm not going to have much time to update in the next few weeks. I'll try, but.... *shrug*

Dr G went and did something stupid yesterday. He signed us up to represent the college at some 8th-grade career fair the week before the plant sale. (We'll leave alone discussions of whether or nto it's actually something useful for the average 8th-grade student.) And, he signed us up for a tour, for the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce, the DAY BEFORE the second day fo the plant sale. Oh, goody. Bastard. Any nursery owners in that are going to be going through here like a hawk, trying to catch us selling things we illegally propagated.

Noticed this morning that the gas station where I filled up last night went from $2.149/gal at 6 last night, to $2.269/gal this morning. WTF?

Another entry for WTF: saw this large truckish thing on Lackman Rd last night, looked like someone had stuck a pickup bed on a spiffy new semi. Jacked up and chromed up and tinted windows and all. Huge. Aboslutely huge. Figured it was some kind of special commercial rig, although it didn't have a logo on it that I could see. Was telling By about it last night, and he said it was one of the new diesel pickup trucks. !!!!! Now tell me, what kind of my-penis-is-too-small complex do you have to have, that you need to be driving one of these things? Yeah, it was pretty, but the dang thing CAN'T be useful...gotta have a ladder to get in, and I can't imagine trying to get things into and out of the bed, with it that high. Damn, people. Thing had to have cost as much as my mortgage, and I'm sure it cost more than my monthly mortgage payments to keep it fueled.

I don't understand.

What else have I neglected to update on in the past few days?

Never did hear from Sis last Saturday. By called her Tues night, because we'd had a weird message on our answering machine looking for her (she says she'd given us as a reference for something, that's all). She told By that she'd spent all of last weekend on the phone arguing with Almost-Ex. Charming. Her emergency divorce is going through, thank goodness. Unfortunately, she told Almost-Ex about the boyfriend first off, so that may be a problem. Maybe not...she's got years' worth of therapy (and medication) for all the marital problems, that may outweigh it. Anyway, she also told By that she's thinking about coming to visit me at school this Sat afternoon, because Almost-Ex's mother wants to take the boys on a trip to Mississippi this weekend (By didn't get the reason for trip, I probably don't want to know).

Now, does anyone but me think that's a REALLY bad idea? Like, maybe a get-your-kids-stolen-by-the-ex kind of bad idea?

From what By said, all Sis could think about was getting rid of the kids for a couple of days so she could see the boyfriend.

In case I haven't mentioned it publicly yet, my sister has Teh Dumb when it comes to relationships.

I've not been paying much attention to the news lately, but I stumbled across this post on Molly Saves The Day, and have been following it since. Yes, it's the same thing I linked to Monday morning. If you read it then, make time to go back and read the comments....it's an interesting cross-section of views and opinions on the matter.

And while we're on that subject, our neighoring state of Missouri has decided join the pro-birth bandwagon. Heard the story on NPR this morning, that some elected official (and I didn't catch that part of the story) had declared that it was time to shut Roe v Wade down, state by state if they had to, and that they planned to introduce legislation to ban all abortions in the state except those necessary to prevent the death of the mother.

I'm still looking for an article on this, I'd like more documentation. If anyone sees anything, pass it on.

Gods above and below. All aboard the every-sperm-is-sacred bandwagon. Next stop, Republic of Gilead.

WTF? Nice scheduling, that. Seems like everyone's having the "management are idjits" week, doesn't it?

Re: anti-abortion legislation over here in Missouri...tried to find some info, but not much luck so far. Would like to find out which of the politicritters made the statement. I can think of three or four who might have done it, but confirmation would be useful. I'll keep looking, I suppose.

And...Republic of Gilead? I don't get the reference. Looks like I have my own case of Dumb today (but not Teh Dumb...I'm not that tired).

Gilead is the name of the new US in The Handmaid's Tale. I use it interchangeably with "The Righteous States of America", which is what the same basic thing is called in Heinlein's books about overturning Nehemiah Scudder's theocracy.

I think it's just a bad scheduling week all over. I know that I'm getting jammed up in various ways that have little to do with poor management and everything to do with the rush rush rush of school.

Note to self: get around to reading Handmaid's Tale, since I keep hearing about it from a variety of sources. Speaking of books, which Heinlein books dealt with that theocracy? I've read some of his stuff, but I don't recall that particular scenario.

...glad you took credit for that post. You almost got replied to as if you were Jera. Which would've been somewhat awkward, I expect. Amusing, perhaps, but probably awkward.

Revolt in 2100 (By and Jera have it) and some others, I think mostly short stories. Revolt is the big one, and one of the later Time Patrol books refers to it. I think the Righteous States may come up in either I Will Fear No Evil or The Number of the Beast, but I can't remember because I hate them both so much.

You should definitely read Handmaid's Tale and also Tepper's Gibbon's Decline and Fall and The Gate to Women's Country.

Maybe not The Gate to Women's Country....that tends to make guys twitchy. Although, in that grouping, maybe it'd come off more cautionary.

There was another book I'd thought to add to the list, but now that I'm typing, I'll be damned if I can remember.

If you feel up to a little running this Sunday, why don't we go to Half Price Books and pick up a copy? I'll spring for yours, so we can read it together. It's been way too long since I've read it, and since the current politicritters keep reminding me of it.....

Forecast is looking like rain right now for Sunday, so we might want to skip going to camp. Hunting books, however, might not be so bad.

I have a new C J Cherryh book to hunt down, and another Laurell Hamilton was supposed to be out Tuesday.

I hear the book store calling now :)

Has Sis mentioned any of this to whatever attorney has been hired to handle the divorce? He/she might want to know about the children being taken out-of-state...

I wasn't in on the conversation, so not a clue. I may call her and ask tonight (I've got all of 20 minutes free time to do that this evening), because I'm rather concerned about it.
