You are going to have to accept how worthwhile you are, at some point.
People aren't be aiming you at these projects to stroke your ego. They see you as a valuable tool to accomplish their goals, and aren't going to risk achieving their ends just because of your big baby blues.
That might work on some of us, but not administrators. ;)
You have paid your dues and worked hard and diligently in the organization, and it's Your Time now. YOU get to advance, achieve, and realize some dreams and expectations.
SURE it's scary, when what-you-want suddenly is standing in front of you, saying, "Alright. I'm here. Let's GO!"
Takes a whole change in attitude, a whole lot of letting-go-of-old-habits to just JUMP. Believe me; I'm very familiar with this concept right now.
You'll either Fly (which is what I expect), or the loving people around you will catch any and all falterings, with Love, Understanding and unending Support.
