Starting another week at the bottom of the well of Not Enough Sleep. Argh.

New Boss is trying to be the responsible manager type this week (I think it's a punishment detail). I heard that he came in Mon and Tues and spent the days supervising Problem Part-time Guy. (And wish him much joy in it, the rest of us have given up.) Courtney says PPTG was pissed, and talking about going up to Maintenance Superviser, or even HR, and demanding they change his hours to days when New Boss isn't working. Not bloody likely, considering that they're actively trying to find a reason to fire him. And that's a thought that does brighten my day a bit.

Had two hard frosts over the weekend, which sucks, because I lost whatever iris were already blooming, and most of the buds that were going to bloom in the next week or so. *sigh* I figure the late frost/early iris season combo will cut the show down by about a third this year.

Did manage to get a little spraying done yesterday, despite the wind, so I can turn a few more square feet of yard into beds. One chunk, by the mint bed, already has plants waiting...frostbitten plants, but still alive. And I zapped a bit of poison ivy in the front yard, and the small trees coming up against the foundation at the south end of the house, and the small trees coming up under the deck. Still have a gallon of spray to use, tonight if the weather cooperates.

Earth Day out at camp was fun, even if little went as planned. Forgot my outline, so my "talk" was more conversation than talk. No one seemed to mind too much, though. They dragooned attendees into helping spread the sand around the ritual circle, and dig the trench for the drain tile, so that's completely done. The sand seemed to hold a fire nicely, too...Ashe did a small fire for us on Sat night, which was very welcome in the cold. Sunday's HSA meeting was surprisingly productive, considering all the crap that's been on the list lately.

Talked to Mom on Monday night. Sis's little boy has to go in again, because one of the tubes in his ear got infected. The other ear is healing ok, they think--hard to tell when he's so fussy with the bad side.

The stuff with Grandma is getting worse. Aunt Michelle called Mom on Sunday, because Uncle Carl (Mom's youngest brother, the "rich" one)was too upset by what he's hearing to talk to Mom directly. Mom doesn't know if Grandma's not telling them correctly because she's trying not to upset people, of Grandma's slipping enough to get it all mixed up, but the story they've gotten was wrong, and they were very upset about it, and not willing to listen. It all boils down to they want to buy what's left of the farm, because "that's Carl's inheritance, it's all he has left of his daddy" (never mind him going bakrupt and losing a quarter of it a few years ago). But, they don't have cash up front, like the cousins who live next door to the farm do. (For the record, Carl lives somewhere in Texas now. We don't know where, he won't tell anyone, and Mom didn't even have a phone number for him until a year or more after he moved.) And the cousins who live next door to the farm take very good care of their own property, and they visit/check in on Grandma frequently....*sigh* Mom made matters worse by telling Grandma to get everything in writing. Mom meant that she should, so there were no misunderstandings, but it pissed Carl off anyway.

Carl and Michelle didn't believe Mom about Grandma's financial situation, either. I admit, I knew it was bad, but not how bad. Grandma gets about $900 a month in social security. Of that, $300-400 goes to utilities (because they're high in her area, and it's an old inefficient house), $350 goes for supplemental insurance that she HAS to have, she buys groceries very frugally, and some of her meds. Not all. Some. Mom pays a neighbor to mow the yard all summer, and paid for part of the last plumbing repair, Mom's older brother paid for the rest of the plumbing repair, and gives Grandma as much money as he can afford towards her meds. Once again, some of her meds, not all. What it boils down to is Grandma doesn't have enough money left over to buy a damn bottle of cough syrup. And Carl thinks Mom and the other brother are being hateful and nasty and exagerrating.

From what Mom says, the tubes were supposed to be a short-term fix...no more than six months, just drain the poor little guy's ears long enough for them to heal themselves. And he may have a hole in one eardrum, like Sis does. As you say, runs in the family.

Your uncle is a daft git, by the way.
That is sooo not news.

He got where he was because a great-aunt was married to Someone Very Important in Boeing, who ushered him in the door. He then ushered his wife in the door. Got into the military side of Boeing, climbed the ladder quickly, and made and lost lots of money. (The wife and kids helped that last bit.)

Further outrage from Mom's talk on Monday...Michelle told Mom that they couldn't send Grandma any money, and would have to do payments on the land, because they still have kids in school. Bitch.
