Just in case anyone's curious, my first tall bearded iris bloomed yesterday--an old-fashioned purple, with slightly lighter purple standards. The border beardeds have been blooming for over a week, and in fact are nearly done.

Utterly huge and glorious--that's rather what mine look like, or will in about two weeks. If I'm lucky, the shasta daisies and other early perennials will start blooming before the iris finish. Eventually, I'd like to have a nice succession of bloom from May to August or Sept. Eventually. Gotta get the beds under control and the grasses out first.
