We spent most of the weekend being homebodies. Slept in (sinfully so-11:30!) Sunday morning, putzed around, went out for a stack of movies, then stayed up late watching them. Got some knitting done, By got in some quality time with the cats. Took things easy Monday, went to my committee meeting for HSA (that's the not-so-quiet part of the weekend), and spent yesterday knitting and puttering on the computer.

Movies: Chronicles of Riddick and the animated one that comes before it were good. The Disney version of Wrinkle in Time wasn't bad, but it was watered down a lot. I feel sorry for anyone for whom that movie is their intro to the story, the book's much better. Around the World in 80 Days was fun; I'm going to have to reread that book, see how much Disney messed with it.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for rain Fri and Sat, not the wintery mix that's also possible. We need the moisture, but I'm getting spoiled, and I just don't want to deal with more ice. Courtney and I get to go out today, since the weather's cooperative today, and work on cleaning up the last of the damage from the last ice storm (ie broken branches high up in trees).

HSA is fast becoming a quagmire of drama. Not that this news is a surprise, it's been volatile as long as I've been around it. But there is one new-ish person in particular who has rejoiced in picking fights and generally being belligerant on the list, to the point of asking the president of HSA who he thought he was, trying to moderate this person's posts. (The president told me that someone he knew once described the troublemaker as someone whose "balls are permanently welded to his modem"--the fellow's much less trouble in person. But his online behavior has gotten him kicked out of many groups in the area already, and supposedly gotten him kicked out of HSA years ago. No knowing if that's actually true or not.) *shakes head* At the moment, we're putting up with it because there are people in the group we highly value, and we do like some aspects of the festival. But gee whiz people, it's like all the worst BS we used to see in the SCA.

The UnSock Report: Am half done workind the border around the neck and front opening on the Origami Kimono sweater. Have decided that the bottom border will not be as wide....one, I don't need a broad horizontal stripe there, and two, I'd need more yarn. I'm doing the borders in a daisy stitch, which shows off the variegated yarn, and provides decent contrast with the texture of the garter stitch body. No, I haven't started the sleeves yet. I will, I will.

Also managed to finish the lace scarf I was playing with yesterday. I really need to spend some quality time washing and blocking stuff.

If anybody is capable of cooling the jets of a belligerent pagan, you are my dear. Just give him one of those wicked looks that say, "Your balls might be nailed to your modem now, but I'm about to remove them". He'll behave.

Seriously, I have never understood people who purposely try to make things difficult for others. I have on occasion been combative in conversation when needing someone to appreciate me--not that it works--so maybe his behavior is also a cry for help.

Well, I tried sweet reason via the list, a couple of times, and was belligerantly told my degree meant nothing towards the discussion of soil and ecology at Camp. Ended up having a short exchange of emails with the HSA president, starting with that person's behavior towards the list in general. I pointed out to Mr Pres that I knew several people who were no longer reading the list because this guy was there commenting on everything, usually sarcastic and cutting people down, and starting fights for no reason. Mr Pres has tried to address the guy directly, which made him worse. I think this guy is just a nasty person, some people just are, and there's no helping them.

Gods above and below, don't tempt me. Do you have any idea how much money I'd make selling tickets or video rights to that?
