Aug. 11th, 2005 06:59 amSpent yesterday evening on the phone, being social. I'd meant to be productive, and knit during the social calls; instead I sat at the computer and sorted tatting patterns. Very productive. But restful, in a way. And it did need doing.
By didn't get home until almost 10, and I was too close to crashing to talk much. Sounds like the event last night went ok though.
By's b-day card from Mom arrived yesterday (unusually late for Mom), along with a copy of the Lincoln paper. Guess the public library had a bunch of SCA folk from Salina in for a demo. Cat, remind me if I don't post the names, see if it was anyone you knew. Also got the second of the leather books By'd ordered online (Leather Shoes for Men, or something like that); he muttered this morning that he'd stayed up too late paging through the new book, and it was very good. I foresee a new class of projects in By's future.
Yesterday's staff meeting was dreary--another one of those silly "buck up and deal with what we're given" pep talks from Maintenance Supervisor, who is a bad public speaker on a good day, and any time he's trying to give uncomfortable or serious talks is not a good day. A whole hour of bad, in fact. Which boiled down to: they're raising expectations, while we have fewer staff and a smaller budget than we did 10 yrs ago; and unless we can keep things looking nice, we won't get any more staff. (The logic of that still escapes me, but then, I'm just a groundskeeper.) **crosses fingers and prays for greenhouse job**
