Feel like I'm running on empty today, well, all week, really. Not sure if it's just PMS, or the cumulative effects of heat and air pollution and working in both, of stress, or....I'm just tired. Am half hoping it really rains all day, because then I'd get a relaxing day in the shop with nothing much to do. Or that it doesn't rain, so I'll have to water, that'd be relaxing too.

Forgot to get Donna's cuttings last night. I was thinking about it while I was watering, turned the hose off, set it down, and went back inside. Ah, well. It can wait until next week. Ought to get some cuttings of the red-leafed crab she gave me, and of my New jersey tea while I'm at it.

Did get the Heretics-at-Tara meal plan figured up and emailed out. Managed to hit my goal, less than $20 a person for the weekend. Certainly not as fancy as our Heartland food, but it doesn't need to be.

Tristan: remember you'd menionted expecting to see gas prices at $2.50/gallon very soon? I thought I'd seen it this morning at Hwy 7 and I-70, which was $2.499. Then, at Hwy 7 and Johnson Drive, one of the gas stations on the corner had $2.559 for their cheapest gas, the other (newer and fancier station, always pricier) was $2.579. **sigh** Good thing the heat's breaking for a while. I can turn the AC off, ans stretch my half a tank until I can fill up on the MO side later in the weekend.

Sure enough, I wait for the rain to stop before going to get building trash, get the truck all loaded up, take the last cart inside, and, what do I see when I get outside again? You guessed it! More durn rain. And there are enough leaves and squished crabapples (from pruning yesterday and Wed) in the back of that truck to make the footing tricky when dry, let alone with a quarter inch of rain in there.

In case you're curious, the rain gauge here reads 1/2", with at least another 1/4" expected tonight and tomorrow.

Don't need to water trees now. And the rain's been spotty enough (and still looks that way on radar) that I get to spend the day "designing" a landscape for one of the bare buildings on campus. Kinda nice...got the office to myself, because Shop Grunt left at 8 to do "household things" and The Other Dave called in sick. He's probably watching his kids so the wife can spend more time with her dad (who's at home and visiting people in between rounds of chemo, they're having a rough time). It's not a day spent knitting, but it's not bad.

Thought you might like this entry in [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck (I found it on [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes). Makes some of the things that go on at your workplace seem tame.

Edit: for any other curious souls, this is oh-so-NSFW.

The next wave of storms arrived in a dark line of clouds that's cooled the air at least 15 degrees, and left my knees aching. But the rain is good, and the wind smells like the prairie, not like Suburbia.
