I realized this morning that I haven't been to bed before midnight in over a week. Tried to last night, was semi-virtuous and got off of IM around 11:30, still didn't lay down to sleep until 12:15.

*yawn*

Now I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for a rain day.

Other than staying up too late, and neglecting that nap I've been promising myself, I got a lot done yesterday. Four loads of laundry, (folded and put away, even!), load the dishwasher, unpack a few more things from Heartland, and managed to spent a fair amount of time typing at people on IM.

By got home from work last night, ate a quick dinnner, and ran up to camp to retrieve the ladder and camp stove we'd not been able to load in the rain that Tuesday. Those runs are never fast, because the new caretakers at camp are talkative and interesting. He also ran what was left of the keg of cider back to the store, and replenished his rum supply.

Tonight will likely be as exciting. I've got things to plant, and water, if it doesn't rain, and some cleaning to do. And I've already promised myself to get off the computer by 11pm.

I've always got a bad memory for the names of songs and artists, so I probably shouldn't be attempting this at this hour of the day, but here goes:

1. Anything by Djembe Kaan, who rocked the house at HPF 2005. West African style percussion, international troupe. Weee!

2. "Somebody to Love" by Queen, because I like singing along when I've got the car to myself.

3. Anything by Annuna, which is an a capella Irish group whose composer takes the texts of very old church music (and other stuff), and tries to recreate what it might have sounded like. Some of it's in Gaelic, some in Latin, and a little in English (if memory serves correctly).

4. "Mississippi Squirrel Revival" by Ray Stevens. A childhood favorite. (I know, I'm weird). The radio station in Salina that Mom listened to in the early-mid 80's used to play a Ray Stevens song every morning, between 7 and 7:30. What a wonderful way to wake up, as a kid.

5. "Unchained Melody" -- Righteous Brothers. My mom used to play this record (!) a lot when I was a kind; it's one of the things I learned to sing on.

6. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" -- The Tokens. Another thing I love to sing along with when I've got the car to myself.

Heat and humidity chased all of us into shade mid-afternoon today. I hid in the shop for a while, basking in the hum of the window AC, then wandered over to another building to dig out plans for one of the newer buildings on campus, which never got landscpaed. Too uncomfortable out to do anything else.

Did spend a delightful hour pruning a linden tree today--in the shade, with a breeze blowing in the scent of clover, and smelling the linden in full bloom (a floral-honey note, I'd love to catch it in mead someday). Would have gone and done the others today, but my shoulders are stiff after that much work over my head.

Not sure if I get the house to myself tonight or not. By's talking about going to the drum jam that Irene's is hosting, if he's not to filthy and tired from work. Quiet might help me settle down and go to bed faster.
