Had fun with [livejournal.com profile] classics_cat yesterday. By & I went to her house, we admired her new yarn, then out the door and onto the road, leaving the boys to snuggle up to their coffee. Except for the rain on the way out of the city, the roads were good the whole way to her folks, and Cat was kind enough to drive so I could knit. Her parents were on good behavior, for them, and they've mellowed some since the last time I saw them. Lunch wasn't as bad as it could have been, just her mother's luck to pick a bunch of things I don't normally eat.

Had I heard the comment as it was made, I probably would have smacked her father, though. I didn't think anything about picking up one of the bolts of fabric (which were the whole point of this little adventure) and tossing it onto my shoulder...the bolt was as tall as I was, it was easier to carry that way. Not heavy, just a little hard to hold onto. Apparently this impressed Cat's dad, who commented, "Sturdy little thing, isn't she?" Mrph.

As I mentioned before, Cat was nice enough to drive so I could knit the whole way, so I got that halter top ripped out (it didn't work on either of us), and started on the U Can 2 shell from the ChicKnits site. Knitted more at Cat's place, before the (*#@&$( needle broke. It's brass ferules that hold the plastic cord into the bamboo points...they're crimped on both ends, into the plastic and into the bamboo, and I've broken points off two #2 circs, because the ferules sliced through the bamboo, and off of this #8 circ, because it sliced through the cable. Color me very annoyed.

So, my day plan includes a trip to Larrytown for a needle, and to take part of the recycling back. By got a call at 8 this morning; Terry wants him to come in and help them finish the demo job. Blech. I was hoping he'd get more of a weekend, but it is work, and it is money.

We're also expecting a call from Robyn this afternoon; she called just as we got into the house last night. Someone broke three of the windows in her mom's house. Nothing's gone, that she can tell, but it means the kids have noticed the house is empty, and a fair target. Robyn's trying to figure out what she HAS to get out of the house, and what she's not worried about. By will probably end up taking a day this week and helping her move stuff to the building.

Yarn Barn, for instance. I walk in, just for a #8 circ, harmless, quick....but nooooo, I end up walking the racks of mill ends, and end up in front of the alpaca section. Towards the bottom was a lovely light greyish brown 2-ply wool, quite fine, over two pounds of the stuff, for $13.57. All the wool I'd need to do the gossamer version of the lily of the valley shawl, and then some. But I walked away. Twice. The second time, with the yarn tucked under my arm, heading back to the needle rack to get an appropriately sized needle.

*sigh*

I am such an addict.

The good news is I got the recycling taken back, so that corner of the house is clean again, and I did get the #8 circ I went to yarn Barn for, so I can finish the U Can 2 shell, hopefully today.
