Too distracted to update recently
Dec. 2nd, 2003 08:18 amSo, to recap:
The Sock Report: Finished By's Xams socks Sunday night. Will weave in ends sometime today. The Xmas Yarn made a pair of socks about 1 1/2" taller than the blue celtic ones I'd done for him last year. By pronounced the finished socks "ooooo, cozy". Have not started mine yet.
Been working on the Greco-Turkish socks. That pattern's complex enough I can't follow the colorwork and talk to people at the same time, so that's been an at-home by myself project. But I'm making headway.
The UnSock Report, Part 1-Yarn Stuff: Started a trial version of the half-gloves in the last issue of Interweave Knits. If it works out ok, I'll do a set quick for By's dad for Xmas. We never know what to do for him for Xmas.
Looks like I'm going to have to restart the textured scarf I'd begun on Thanksgiving for By. The kittens got hold of it Friday night, and managed to break both yarns. Grrrrr.
Spent yesterday running errands and shopping for art supplies. Beads, fur, one skein of yarn, and paints--an expensive day. Which brings us to...
The UnSock Report, Part 2-NonYarn Things: I recently found a website dedicated to the concept of Artist Trading Cards (ATC). Basicly, they're like baseball cards, only with various arty themes and techniques, all 2.5" x 3.5", and traded, not sold--approachable, personal, anyone-can-make-it art. The last thing I need this time of the month is an inspirational idea. I'm moderately obsessed with idea already--I haven't finished any cards yet, but I do have 4 drawings waiting for color in front of me as I type.
My other project for today is to spray-paint some Altoids tins, and start turning them into little shrines. It's another idea I happened across online. These will eventually have silk-screened rangoli patterns (probably in ink and glitter) placed inside, along with whatever else seems to fit. I've accumulated all kinds of little sequins and beads and such over the years; this will probably be a good home. And I've been wanting to translate the rangoli into a smaller, portable medium for a while.
Only other news is that By's folks want us to visit between Xmas and New Years, probably that Sat & Sun between. We can't bitch, since they're paying for the plane tickets, and it would be a short trip. So now we need to coordinate with everyone we'd made tenative plans with for that time, and figure out where we need to be and when.
