Still no Unsock Report
Oct. 31st, 2003 06:21 amWork hs been uneventful, unless the constant wind counts as an event. Been planting bulbs--daffodils and grape hyacinth. They're going in a landscaped bed, under the existing groundcover, so it's slow going. In two days, Courtney and I got about 600 bulbs in the ground--in a prepped bed, that many tulips would have about 90 minutes. But when you have to dig the holes individually (or for small groups of bulbs, 15" wide and 6" deep), it slows you down.
Didn't get any knitting done last night, I have promised myself I will start that sleeve tonight. Didn't get any practicing done before rehearsal either, but it went well regardless. I have the books we'll be performing out of for the next two months, so I can catch up with the group now. The two books we worked out of last night were more interesting (and more difficult) arrangements than the one we played out of last week. Now, I just need to find my fingering chart, and find that high G#. (Susan, the bass player, and I tried two or three fingerings last night, and none sounded right.) I did remember where the A# was this time--that was a big improvement.
The gal that plays soprano (whose name I just cannot remember) took me to see something pretty cool after rehearsal. There's a family in Leavenworth that carves pumpkins, some very elaborate, and puts them out in their lawn with lights inside--not just 5, or 10, but 150 pumpkins. I guess it's become a neighborhood thing--the family buys pumpkins by the truckload, and they and ther friends and neighbors carve them. The lady that took me over there did two of them, a pirate ship and a kitten. Someone had done a very impressive bust of King Tut, and there was a version of "American Gothic", with skeletons grinning and posing.
It's worth a trip to see them; it's at 10th and Cherokee in Leavenworth.
The Sock Report: worked on the Timber Frame socks during lunch, and before quitting time yesterday. I'm halfway through the top ribbing now. I packed scissors and a yarn needle, just in case I get to the finish work on those today or tomorrow.
