The tree care seminar, named "bugs and cooties" by one of the presenters, was very good. More info on sudden oak death this yeaar--nasty stuff, that. They've ID'd the fungus that causes it (it's a Phytopthera, if anyone's interested), it's still isolated in California, and it attacks a lot more things than they initially guessed. Ick.

The last talk was a discussion of tree planting depths, and what the industry needs to change in it's production and planting practices. Informative, but depressing. I now know just how many of the new trees on the tree trail are planted wrong -- all of them! I will be more watchful in future projects.

Finished the body of the first blue-star sock while at the seminar (they gave us handouts, so I didn't need to do notes). It's raining, so I can't do much outside, and I expect I'll start the second sock this afternoon.

Heard from my sister that her husband was let out of the Army, but the fool wants to re-enlist, as long as he can go overseas and play. I do not understand. Haven't heard from Rob on whether/when he's going.

We did get the retaining wall finished Tues afternoon, then we filled the bed with used potting soil from the all the pots that were stacked around the yard. Got everything replanted, too. So far, so good. By's happy, 'cuz now he knows exactly where the edge of the bed is. I'm happy, 'cuz it ought to be easier to take care of. Now I need to decided whre I'm putting the next one.

Those of you who know my mom, keep her in your thoughts next Monday. She's going in to have a biopsy done on her uterus. She *says* it's routine, just a check since all the other tests they've been running on her have been clean. Just "the change", she says. But my grandmother had a tumor removed in her 30's, and so Mom's doctor is a little concerned.
