back to work
Sep. 11th, 2002 10:42 amI've gotten spoiled by long weekends; actually having to work a 4-day week this week will be hard. I plan on doing as little as possible, so I can ease back into this whole work thing.
Still watering trees most of the time--my poor assistant hasn't done anything else since the 4th of July. At least now she can do her homework while she's in the water truck. And there's a chance of rain this weekend; maybe we'll get some (rain that is, I heard that thought!)
Spent way too much time doing temari this weekend, and my hands hurt. I know better, I just forget. Still ruminating about an eventual temari show in a gallery, but that's a long term project--I figured in order to get the effects I want, I'll need at least 3000 temari balls in varying sizes. I started working towards that in spring; there's 154 balls in the drawer as of last night. I know, I'm behind.
Yesterday's accomplishment: I found a way to get decent close-up pics of my larger temari balls on my scanner. Just putting the lid down on them gave me some really weird, fun-house type perspectives. Amusing, but not what I was after. I found that leaving the lid up and draping a piece of fabric over the ball and the scanner bed gave a much cleaner result. Almost 200 scans later, I hadn't done any of the housework, but I've got some neat shots of what's in the "show" drawer.
At one art show I went to last winter, one of the painters had made postcard sized prints of some of her paintings and sold them in sets of 5. Compared to the prices of the other stuff at this show, the cards were really cheap, and so they sold well. I'd like to do something like that with my temari, when I do the show. I don't think any of the pics I've got are good enough to use that way (I was doing them as an inventory & to play with the scanner), but it's something to work towards. I've got a couple of shots taken by a professional photographer (he knows Byron) who asked my hubby for some small pieces to play/practice with--the temari I sent in were all a little under 1" in diam, and I guess te size and texture, and metallic threads used made them very hard to shoot. I think some of what I got off the scanner were better than those photos.
Hmm, better end for now--lunch hour's over, and C will be back soon & want his computer.
