A very very bad idea

So, Grounds Foreman came in this morning, all full of piss and vinegar (big surprise), and wanted to talk to all of us FT people about doing a sick-out next Wed to protest the 4 months plus that we've been without a supervisor. And after he'd said his piece, he went around asking us all what we thought, and whether we'd participate. I'm quite sympathetic to his cause, but I certainly can't afford to piss off the management here. Not without somewhere else to go, first. And I told him that. Sorry to disappoint, but I've got to take care of myself. I offered to be the lone person who came in on Wed, to tell the management why the others didn't. *shrug* I really don't think it'll do any good, this place doesn't work like that, and with Maintenance Director being from a corporate system and quite likely to fire the ones who made him look bad.....Shop Steward agrees with me, but he had the ready out of having already asked for next Wed off to go fishing.

Eep is right. Maintenance Supervisor (the next guy in the chain below Maintenance Director) deflated Grounds Foreman this morning...told him that the administration was going to make Applicant an offer either today or tomorrow, so the department *should* have a supervisor within the next 3 weeks (even if it's not the one we wanted), and Grounds Foreman finally has a definitive answer, and can make his plans. Which seem to include quitting--just before graduation, at that--and going back to school someplace else.

You know... once I start making the money, or sooner if I manage to win the lottery, I am going to start an artist's colony and arboretum. I wish I could make the offer of grand poo-bah of plants sooner. I will keep happy thoughts in your and By's general direction.
