treeskinIt's the bad news/good news postings today...didn't want to grumble about work and then try to find something good to talk about in the same post.
Let's see....decent stuff that happened yesterday....got that magnolia in the ground, so I'm down to just the trees in 5-gal pots today. Easy stuff to plant. And it's supposed to rain sometime tonight/tomorrow/Sunday, so they'll get watered in.
The boss (Maintenance Supervisor, who is the guy under Maintenance Director, and who will be Applicant's boss--don't you just love gov't bureacracies?) says he can find money in the budget to get the hackberries in front of the Hort Center taken care of, either prune out the dead (about half of both trees), or remove the tree, depending on what the arborist recommends. This is good news.....these two trees shed constantly, we've left them because the architect said they were part of the design for the building, and the architect convinced the head of the SCI Dept they had to stay. Mrph. Donna's been afraid to plant anything near or under them, because one of those large dead branches might come down on something small, fragile, and expensive to replace.
Came home with haf a car load of paper again...Duane stopped me in the parking lot yesterday morning and told me to come find him later, he'd saved a pile for me. The first pile was trimmings, mostly text weight, some light cardstock, some glossy color-printing stuff. The second pile was 12x18, text weight and glossy papers, by the ream--some still in its plastic wrappers! I even got it unloaded this time, so I can think about using the trunk of my car again.
Did a walk-through of my daffodils at home last night, and found two pleasant surprises. First, one of the perennials Donna had given me late last fall not only survived, but is blooming right now (a small-flowered dark blue violet). Second, the little crabapple that Donna had given me years ago had been right in the path of one of the dead pines when it fell over this winter. I'd written the crabapple off as lost, but when I pulled it out from under the pine, not only was it alive, it was not broken, and stood up straight. That's a plant that wants to live.
Too tired after rehearsal to do much last night; did get another 4 pattern repeats done on the beaded fringe. Plan to finish painting those scarves tonight, see if I can get that jacketish thing done. Decided last night that if I skipped dyeing my hair, I'd have that much more time to work on other parts of the costume. I think it'll work without green hair.

Date: 2004-03-26 09:24 am (UTC)And Duane is a paper-pusher....he stopped at 6:30 in the morning, as he was pulling onto campus and Courtney & I were picking up trash, ans told us to come see him. And then he stopped us on our way through the building for tools later in the morning, and told us to make some piles go away. "Yup....all these packages, ooooo, shiny new paper, still in its wrapper......all for you"
