Looks like I get my wish today--Courtney's starting her family leave this week (the baby's due next week, for those who are keeping track), and so I get to take it easy and water trees today. Gotta ease back into this work thing.

All in all, a good trip. A bit disorganized, getting there, everything seemed to smooth out a bit once we got on site. One major emergency in our camp--Cy cut himself while prepping a log for Friday's fire, and had to go to the emergency room. Eek.

Because of the medical emergency, we did the goat roast on Sat instead. We MUST do the goat thing again. Very very good eats. And good people at the butcher shop--Pak Halal Meat Shop, on 87th St.

Our brownie & ice cream party on Sunday kinda fizzled; we were just too busy trying to get the fire ready. We got the goodies anyway, we just didn't get to sit down all together and enjoy them. Sean and Renee made it out, which was cool.

The rangoli Sunday night was a fantastic success. Ashe couldn't find the stuff to do the remote detonation, so we (me & Marta & Karen) worked a path from the South point of the circle, up to the bottom point of the fire. Jack had designed a really cool triangular fire, and the result was a really intense blend of energies--very feminine energy from the floral rangoli, and the triangular shape on the fire, and the more masculine path into the fire.....Ashe made the lighting of that fire a real show--he carried the torch in a circle around the edge of the pattern, illuminating it (intact) one last time, before marching up the path and setting the pile alight. Weeee! I was high as a kite the rest of the evening, just from the energy backwash.

Monday was quiet. We like quiet. We watched people pack up around us, and luxuriated in the fact that we had time to enjoy our morning coffee. By & I thought about leaving Tues, and he drove home with a load of tools & Ashe & Karen's camping stuff, and called Robyn, and she said she didn't need him Wed, so we stayed Tues night. Made packing up yesterday much easier--and slower--we didn't start packing until 11, but we were home by 3. Not bad.

I think next year, for Heartland, I'm going to try to take off the whole week before, so we can go up early and help get the fires ready, so maybe the guys will have more time to enjoy themselves during the festival.
