By and Spats and Fuzz are asleep in his chair, have been for half an hour or so. Baggins, Bats, and Fox are sprawled on the bed. Somebody's snoring quietly, probably Baggins.

I've managed to find the Morning Sex beast three days in a row. And I found an Evening Sex Beast after dinner. Life is good.

No real news today, beyond that. I've been a terribly self-indulgent creature, and read an entire book today, just because it wasn't work-related. Haven't done that in a month or more. And I've been knitting, a sweet little textured sock just for me, because the yarn called to me.

By brought me two pair of lovely silver hairsticks from their shopping expedition this afternoon. I think I'll wear one set (not sure which, yet) tomorrow, for my first class. Not sure what else I'll wear....nothing too dressy, since I'm going from the greenhouse to class. But dry shoes, certainly. And maybe handknit socks, as an indulgence.

Off to knit some more. If I'm lucky, I'll find that Morning Sex Beast again tomorrow morning.

It's toe-up, I had 14 sts/needle, I increased to 24 sts/needle on the two heel needles, I reached the point where I needed to turn the heel, and I can tell that on the first one I continued knitting 8 sts straight, and there are loops of yarn clearly indicating that I wrapped sts, so it is definitely a short-row heel. I think it's according to a pattern you gave me. The heel "flap" is a triangle with the point down at those 8 sts and then the sides take up the extra width of the gusset. Does that make sense?

So, yes, I knit the heel flap together with decreasing the gusset, I guess. What does that mean and how do I do it again?

I would guess that you're doing short rows, starting in the center and working out, decreasing the last st of each short row together with the next st on that side, until you're back to 14 sts on each heel needle.

I'm having trouble turning myself around to visuallize this...the sock I'm working on now is top-down, standard heel flap and turned heel and gussets.

Okay, so, I knit across the 8 center sts, wrap the next st, turn, purl across to last pink st (heel is pink), P2tog, wrap next st, turn, knit to last pink st, K2tog, wrap next st, turn etc? I think that's what I'm doing right now, anyway.

Sounds right.

Hey, shouldn't you be teaching, or doing school stuff right now?

Sounds like a good use of time, then.

I need to go water, and then spent some quality time assembling my syllabus.

It always takes longer than you think. Mine is nearly done, though not quite. And I need to add something about attendance.

I've fucked up the heel somehow and am going to have to rip it.

I have no idea how I did that first heel. There are obviously no K/P2tog in it. Arrrgghh!
