Haven't gotten everything done this week that I'd hoped/planned, but I made a fair bit of progress. I'm halfway through the making-costume-bits crocheting (which needs to be done by 1pm tomorrow), and By's gift afghan is completely done. I may have mentioned that already. I started working on a wide crocheted beaded rope as a choker, in greens; that's a take-along project, so that's no hurry to finish.

Today is By's last day working with Robyn, so wish him luck and a smooth transition. He'll be working part-time for her through Jan 20th (I think), to finish some projects, because she panicked a couple of days ago, and asked very nicely, and well, the money would be nice.

I hadn't mentioned before, but obviously, we survived the trip to Mom's last weekend. Sunday was pleasant; my uncle invited himself over to play cards, which made the afternoon go quickly, and they stayed for diner, which gave us someone cheerful to talk to after Sis and her husband got there. Husbeast was his sullen, angry, don't-want-to-admit-I'm-nervous-about-going-to-Iraq self, ignored the kids unless they were in his way, didn't want to do anything. Which of course stresses Sis out, from dealing with him, and pissed Mom off. He was furious about his mother giving the oldest boy a full-sized acoustic guitar (J is almost 7), because his boy didn't need any of that stupid music stuff. And that led to a long rant about how nobody needed that art and music crap in schools, and how much he hated that his tax dollars paid for it. And nothing we could say would turn him from this line of ranting, so we all just tried to ignore him. Lucky for us, they left early the next morning. We'd planned to stay through Monday evening, but decided we wanted to get home earlier, so we left after lunch.

Mom and Grandma wanted to hear all about By's new job, which we told them, carefully--"retail jewelry store attached to a gift/book shop" I think was what By said. Very neutral, very safe. Mom thought it sounded nice.

I really do love my biological family, but gosh, I'm happy to go home after visits.

Had a pleasant dinner at the home of By's new boss on Wed night, spent a lot of the evening drooling over the woodwork. Lovely, lovely old house. Talked T into attending the dinner (yes, we're making him be social), and then into coming home for the night, so I got my boyfriend fix. Yay!

Slept waaay too late yesterday morning/afternoon, because the boyfriend wanted to lay down for a little bit, and I wanted to snuggle. Three hours later, it's 12:30, and I'm finally dragging myself out of bed. Ooops. Got a decent amount done, anyway. Ran for more wine yeast, then to school to harvest sugar cane and citrus fruits, then to the Charlesworth house for HSA stuff and visiting. And all that put By & I both up until very late last night. He got home about the same time I did, and instead of unloading the trucka nd gathering up tools to take back to Robyn, he stayed inside and helped me process the sugar cane. THEN he went out and did truck things. So, we didn't crash until 1am. Ooops.

Today's goals are:
finish the costume crocheting
gather my clothes together for the party, do any laundry that needs doing for that
check the sugar cane (it's simmering in the oven right now)
start a batch of what's-ripe-in-the-greenhouse-today mead (lemons, kumquats, key limes, and pomegranates)
maybe do a bit of "fun" crocheting (squares, or the beaded stuff)
dream up something for dinner

"retail jewelry store attached to a gift/book shop"

OK - I think that I may have missed some interesting details if this is the "careful" description of the new job. Or do I need a higher security clearance for this info? :-)

Ooops. Most of the discussion about this has gone on either in person, or on a very restricted family-only filter (family = the five of us, now), in the interests of not putting things out to the general public too soon. Aside from worrying about what my bio family might see, there were some other issues with his job switch that had to be handled delicately.

What that "careful" description leaves out is that both the jewelry store, Vulcan's Forge, and the book/gift store, Aquarius, cater to the new age and pagan crowds. By's gf works there as the assistant manager. (They were dating before he was hired, so the boss is ok with it. And they've proved they can behave at work.)

So, if I'm not outted in the next year or so, then the next time Mom comes to visit, and wants to see By's workplace, will be the time.

Ahhhhhh! Now it all makes sense. :-) (I hope that I haven't jinxed anything by asking for this info in an unlocked post) And here I was thinking about government conspiracies or spy vs. spy cloak and dagger adventures. This is much more "mundane". Yes, I'm a silly duck. Is there a website for the store (jewelry or book)?

You know, I hadn't thought about that until you asked. But google yields
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<a [...] http://www.aquariusbooks.com/">') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

You know, I hadn't thought about that until you asked. But google yields <a href="http://www.vulcans-forge.com/>this</a> for the jewelry side (which By works for now), and <a href="http://www.aquariusbooks.com/">this</a> for the other side of the store. (Technically it's two stores, the jewelry side owned by By's boss, and the other side by that fellow's mom, and they happen to share a building.) Might be worth keeping an eye on the Vulcan's Forge site, since Cammie says they're going to do a press release about By's joining them, the next month or so.
