I'm going to take the rock off the top of the soil, see what condition the soil and roots are in.
Donna is firmly of the opinion that it should go outside for the winter. (Most bonsai, if they're a hardy species, do better if you plant the thing, pot and all, in the ground for the winter, in a very protected spot. And then mulch it well. ) Dunno if that's something you could talk Russ into, but it'd probably look better the following year.
