[livejournal.com profile] tristan_knight shared this link with me. It's a recent House bill to repeal the 22nd Amendment. Not sure what kind of a chance it has in passing, but still....I've heard rumors of this for a while, and written it off as paranoia and post-election disappointment. Seeing that it exists, scares me. I really don't need to see my world trying to live up to The Handmaid's Tale.

I believe that this bill comes up in every session of Congress, and only is (back page) news when we have a second-term President.

There are few things in life about which I am certain. But everyone who seriously dreams of being the President someday is glad that the seat is open more or less every other election cycle, and there will always be 34 senators who seriously dream of being the President soneday.

What s/he said.

Also, do you really believe that any Republican would open the next election to the possibility of eight more years of Bill Clinton? (That I see that possibility as a very heaven on earth notwithstanding.)

One certainly hopes so. However, the existence of such a bill makes me twitchy. Not just because of the current office holder (although that's plenty reason enough), but because ANYONE who thinks that's a good idea for the country has an agenda I find very suspect.

Yup. Paranoid. Guilty as charged.
