The Sock Report: got the first of my Aran sandal sox done to the toe shaping; am nearly finished with the gusset shaping on the second.

Still like the Rohan cable for T's kilt hose; still trying to decide on the accompanying cables. May just start knitting, see what looks good; I can always rip a bit out if I decide it's not right.

The UnSock Report: Started projects this weekend, because I just can't resist sometimes. (I was PMSing earlier in the week, that's my only excuse.)

Started and finished a spiral ruffle scarf in a dark purple chenille, which turned out shorter than I'd wear, because that's how far one skein went. But I think I know someone who would like it and wear it just as it is.

Cast on for another Frecklegirl Thong, this time in an overdyed sock yarn. I'm planning to do the front in feather and fan, see if I can dress it up a bit more. The original is nice, and looks great on, but a little plain.

Cast on (and knit 15"!!!) for a Spiral Nebula Shawl, in the mohair loop leftover from the Fenna shawl. Figure I'll just knit until I run out of yarn, and call it big enough. This one is mindless knitting--all garter st, easy shaping.

Projects in Mind: Have the front charted for Turkish socks for By; haven't decided on the design for the back yet. And he approved the pattern, so I'm that far ahead. Still can't decide on a design for Tristan. May have to break down and ask him what he'd like. Heaven forbid, actually asking....

I'm thinking about giving the Rohan cable a try, probably in some appropriately colored Lamb's Pride. I'm thinking I'll do it in a "sample" square, which, if it works out, I will turn into one of the ridiculously simple little shrugs that A really liked in one of the shops we hit on the Plaza last week.

Remind me this week, than, so I'll get off my duff and scan the chart in for you.

Awesome! How big does it turn out as designed? I'm wanting something between 12 and 18 inches on a side for my purposes.

So far, it's a 27 st by 40(ish) row repeat...in sock yarn and on #2's (gauge in stockingette was 8 sts/in), it's about 3" wide by 6" long. Haven't tried it in anything heavier yet. Nothing says you can't repeat it for width, though, or add other cables to fill out your sample square.
