First, the sock report: 1/4" from the gusset shaping on the grey alpaca socks. Not bad...I put 2 1/2" on it last night.

Unamerican things: We finally did it. By called DirecTV yesterday and told them to come get their stuff. We have unplugged the satellite. We plan to spend the $50 a month on videos, or audio books instead.

Work stuff: I actually worked all day yesterday (hey, it's still winter, that's a big deal). Moved ten little trees (a new parking lot's going where they were) out to the tree trail. Need to stake those today. Spent the afternoon cleaning on an old pile of rocks and branches and wild grapes. It was a mess before the tree trail went in, and the construction made it worse, just haven't had time until now to deal with it. We got a good start. I've got a date with one of the part-timers and a chainsaw down there this afternoon. This is one of the areas that the new boss had mentioned as a concern when he was being shhown around; it'd be politic to show some improvement when I give him my tour tomorrow afternoon.

I was being silly about the "unamerican" comment, although from the way the gal at DirecTv argued and tried to talk By into changing his mind...sheesh. But we'd got the point where we'd turn it on, look at the night's offerings, and put a movie in.

I watched it more that he did, mostly as background noise while I knitted. It's a habit I got into in high school--the way the house sat, the radio didn't come in very well, so Mom would have the tv on as background noise. And we had cable then, 'cuz we only got 1 channel well on the antenna. So I got used to having the box babbling while I was working on my projects. Never really sat around and "watched" it, just listened to it. The times we spent with Granny Phillips in Neosho, listening to her books on tape--that I could get used to. I expect that's something we'll be spending money on in the near future.
