Storm report
Jan. 4th, 2005 10:37 pmChecking my work email this afternoon yielded an email saying that campus would be closed after 2:30 today, and all day tomorrow. So, I called in and called around until I found the shop steward near his phone. (I know these people don't work hard for a living, and they're *usually* at their desks!) The word was "stay home tomorrow". I like that word. I called By & gave him the weather reports and the news from work. He'd half plannedon trying to go in tomorrow; I talked him out of that. Got By home safe and sound around 6:30. Fixed a nice pot of potato & veggie soup, with sausages and teaon the side, and we settled in.
We lost power just after 9pm. Not a super big deal. Lit candles, turned off all the lights and stuff we could remember having on, hung heavy blankets over the windows in the bedroom to keep more of our body heat in, grabbed extra blankets for the bed. By snuggled in with the cats, I sat up near the candle and knitted on my shawl.
The power came back on about 10:15. If that's the worst that hits us, we'll count ourselves lucky. By said that our trees were droopy with ice when he got home, but not too bad yet, and there was water on the floor of the garage, but there usually is after as much rain as we've had. Checking the radar, it looks like the storm is breaking up faster than they'd expected.
