Another Turkey Day come and gone. We have a fridge full of food, a pan of bits and bones cooking down for soup stock, and a chilly grey morning. By is at work today, as usual. The kids and I will venture out later today, but no shopping. I have a box to drop at Goodwill, and I need to check on D's house while she's gone to her mom's. It's enough of a ride to give the kids a treat.

The Miss just brought me a couple of toy chickens and a toy potato, and said she was fixing turkey dinner. Ok then.

Grandma is still in the hospital, despite her protests that she's fine, and she doesn't need to be there. Mom said they're trying to get her started back on her insulin, but she's not tracking, and she's not able to do her own shots. Not good. She's also still having chest pains, and they haven't figured out why.

Mom's oldest brother and his wife did visit for a couple hours yesterday. For whatever reason, Grandma wouldn't talk while they were there. Mom's not sure if she was mad because Uncle M brought his wife, or if it took her a while to figure out who they were.

The kids have been sick the whole time Grandma's been in the hospital, so we haven't been to visit. I feel bad about that, but I'd feel worse if we made her sicker.

In other news.....

I signed papers last week to keep The Boy in "diagnostic observation" in the preschool classroom until their holiday break next month. And there'll be another round to keep him in for the week after, until he turns 3 and officially enrolls. He's just getting used to the people and routine there, so the teacher is fiddling the paperwork to keep him, rather than stop just when it's starting to be of use.

We have new book cases in the living room, replacing our old, mismatched ones. By hit the school auction in town last weekend, and picked up enough bookcase parts to do the house and my shed, for $25. Including matching desk parts. There's two finishes, a dark cherry and a lighter brown. We're using the dark cherry in the living room, and have the south wall done, using one bookcase as an entertainment center for the tv and things. We're planning to use the desk parts to do a pair of built-in desks in the living room for the kids to use, plus a built-in desk to get the computer out of the bedroom. And some of the wider cases will flank the picture window, so we can finally put in that window seat that we've always wanted there.

Did I mention that the book cases all match? They look so nice, like grown-up furniture, not leftovers-from-my-college-apartment stuff. Pretty soon, we'll have all the books out of boxes, and onto shelves where they can be enjoyed. Yay!

I have taken a couple days off from the marathon of tatting. Between moving books, which was messy, and getting dinner ready today, I just didn't feel like trying to keep my hands clean enough to tat in white. But I'm somewhere in the neighborbood of 150", so not too much left.
