Did our bi-monthly out-and-about today. Big Lots, the bread store, Goodwill, Walmart. Very exciting. The Miss walked through most of the shopping, and did a great job of staying with us, mostly out of the store displays, and saying "excuse me" to people she interrupted in the aisles.
Did not find the kids' shoes I was hoping for at Goodwill, but we left with a lime green papasan chair. Because The Miss was enthralled by it, and ti's sturdy and big enough to fit her and an adult together. So it's going in her room later today, after we move the big crib out to where The Bug is sleeping.
Found some new sheers for the windows cheap cheap at Big Lots, yay. The Miss was somewhat disappointed that we did not get the purple ones--ivory for the kitchen and living room, soft sage green for the bedroom. We'll make solid curtains to go with those, out of the upholstery fabric we got last winter.
Couldn't find sneakers in The Miss's size that weren't horrible at Walmart, but the next size up wasn't that much too big. She can wear thicker socks for the winter. The Bug is up to 7T in shoes, which is the size The Miss just grew out of.
Other than that, groceries and some stuff to seal in the new windows, and a couple little things as presents for family. Not at all exciting, but it was good to get out of the house for a little while.
We're discovering that, as By's corn sensitivity increases, there are so many things we used to eat without thinking, that we can't anymore. Most snack crackers, especially the fancy flavors. Tomato and cream-of soups. Most canned soups, in fact. About half of the Zatarran's mixes we like. A lot of the spaghetti sauces. All hot chocolate mixes and non-dairy creamers. Any buns and rolls but the plain ones--if there's no corn in them, there's corn meal on the outside. Most fast food, same thing. It's nuts, how much stuff corn is in now, and how much of it is "stealth" corn, as modified corn starch, and maltodextrin and stuff. I'm going to start digging for recipes for some of the things we used to like, and miss, and just plan on baking more.
