Ater weeks of no word, and yesterday's splendid effort by Sis's family and Draco, our long-lost contractor just showed up. I don't know whether to rejoice, or beat him soundly with my skillet.

It's taken Salvage Guy's "siding specialist" most of the day to finish the tiny gable end of the north side of the house. Kudos to all of yesterday's help, who did more, in less time.

And there was a major snafu a little while ago, involving the ending strips, which go at the top of the wall, that they'd put at the bottom as a starter piece. Much yelling ensued from Salvage Guy.

On a brighter note, the front porch is now an enclosed, roofed front porch, with a good sturdy floor. No more snow drifts holding the front door closed for months! The plan involves the roof covering the steps too, and a wall to keep the steps sheltered, and windows. And eventually, a bench seat out there.

No crafting to report lately, becuse my hands have hurt for a while. There is medication for it now, hopefully it kicks in quick. I've got oodles of things I want to finish by Yule.

And, just 15 minutes after eating a snack of homemade bread and jam, my kids ate a whole banana. Each. Which may explain why they're both outgrowing shoes.

(It could be worse. My neighbor's kid, who just turned 6, has put on 12 lb and 3" in 6 weeks, and outgrown almost all of her school clothes all at once.)

Add to today's progress that the old drafty bay window has been replaced with a slightly smaller, double-insulated picture window. The kids are fascinated.

Yay for a husband with mad construction skillz!
