THAT brightens my day
Dec. 3rd, 2005 11:33 amWhen By went out to meet the mailman this morning, he found TWO packages.
The first, the mailman delivered: my "giftmas" package from
tnrkitect. It was a beautifully wrapped copy of The Mary Francis Knitting and Crocheting Book, by Jane Eayre Fryer, from 1918, in lovely condition. It's a great teach-kids-to-knit-and-crochet book, with photos, rare at the time. And the last chapter is a reprint of a Red Cross flyer of "knitting for the war effort" patterns, which is a cool cultural snapshot. (Compare the home factories of knitting and such, producing things for the troops, in WWI and WWII, to the "support the troops" today.)
The second package was from "The Quilt Fairy", and was just sitting out there.
ld_hrothgar had left a embroidered quilt top, along with the pattern. Lovely, lovely thing. Looks like the bross stitching is complete, it just needs quilted. There's enough of the pre-printed pattern left on the fabric to finish it, too. Not sure how much of the old-cotton-yellowing will wash out, but that can be overdyed to even it out. Lovely, lovely thing.
Thank you very much, both of you.
