Well, not so much fire, the weekend was a bit damp for that.

Got out to camp Friday night, had the tent **almost** set up (as in, draping the rain fly on) when the heavens opened up. Dunno how much rain camp got that day and night, but the field next to the main gate was flooded Sat morning.

I volunteered to sit registration on Sat, which didn't let me see the games, but did let me spend the day talking to neat people. The tent next to registration was a couple who did raptor rescue; they had three red-tailed hawks and a European eagle-owl with them this weekend. Beautiful beautiful birds. By got his kilt, and wore it all day Sat. He's got funny cross-tied tan lines on his ankles and feet from wearing his sandals with no socks, but he looked FINE in the kilt. Woo-hoo. He won the archery and dart competitions, so he's pleased with himself.

Must say, I like weekend camping events versus something like Heartland. It's kinda nice to be able to pack the car, get home, and uppack in a couple of hours, rather than the days that Heartland takes.

AND!!! I got to spend some quality time with Tristan over the weekend, which I'd expected to go without because we were camping. He came over Sunday and Monday nights, and brought movies. We watched Stargate on Sunday night, and Sin City Monday night. I'm getting spoiled.

Donna emailed me Monday morning, saying that the posting for the greenhouse job had been sent to HR. So now, I wait for the posting to show up on the website. **sigh** It's hard to be patient, when getting out of grounds is almost within reach.

So, if you can spare the energy, think "emminently employable" thoughts for me this week, folks.

News-ish

Job listing still not posted yet. Donna said it may not be until late today or tomorrow.

She also told me that I've (somewhat worrisome) competition already: the gal who's teaching herbaceous ornamentals heard about the job, and is really interested. And Donna's half afraid that her boss might give it to that lady, because it'd keep her around as an instructor. Which Donna would be really pissed about, but there wouldn't be much she could do. Guess it depends on exactly who is on the selection committee (it'll be Donna, and her boss, and one other person), and whether or not Donna's boss gets veto power over the committee's choice.

**deep breath**

She also told me that that lady can't get down on her hands and knees and do things (gal's over 50, that's not surprising), which is a big strike against her--this is a work in the garden all summer job. (We'll just not mention how arthritic I get in Jan and Feb.) And Donna's not sure that this lady can take the summer heat, or lift the required 60 pounds (dunno why it's a requirement, because they don't check it, and people lie), but she's seen me lift that and more, so....

AND!!! I just got off the phone with Dr S, who's head of the KSU Research & Extension facility in DeSoto, and he said he'd give me "a glowing recommendation", and also "campaign vigorously to Dr G" on my behalf. And that's a BIG deal, because Dr S is the person who says whether stuff's accredited with KSU or not, at least for hort, and he's on the advisory board for the hort program here.

**crosses fingers**

Have I mentioned that the waiting is getting to me?
