Jul. 23rd, 2005 07:43 amFor those who have that luxury today, stay the heck indoors, in the AC, and think cool thoughts in my direction. I'll be in the water truck again--ought to be out there now, but I'm procrastinating.
I am tired enough, at this end of the day, that I can't imagine steaming all day then staying up for the party we'd been invited to tonight. I think they'll forgive us, though. (Also expect it'll be a rowdy enough crowd that two quiet people won't be missed.)
Mom's already starting the "what do you want for Xmas" nonsense. She actually had a good idea for By...dunno what to tell her when she asks for my list. My two stock answers, string and books, are hard to come by in her part of the world. And, while I'm thinking of it....Tristan, thank you ever so much for putting that comment in my head last night. Every time Mom asks "what should I get for your husband", I'll have to squelch myself firmly, because "Which one?" is sooo the inappropriate answer to that. You, my dear, are officially No Help.

Gods above and below, protect my wallet.

One of THOSE days.....
Jul. 23rd, 2005 09:10 amThe water tank has shifted on the truck twice on me, enough that as soon as the damn thing is empty I've got to take it over the carpenters and see what they can rig to stabilize it. The contractors were out to replace 2 trees planted last October (warranty work), and (1) still didn't replace a tree that's been on the list since fucking April (and this is their third trip out for replacements), and (2) did such a half-assed job on the second that I've left two very angry voicemails already. Gods, I hate dealing with contractors.
Wonder if we've got the ingredients for mojitos....I should look up the recipe. I think I could use one tonight.
Ah....recipe:
3 fresh mint sprigs
2 tsp sugar
3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 oz light rum
club soda
In a tall thin glass, crush part of the mint with a fork to coat the inside. Add the sugar and lemon juice and stir thoroughly. Top with ice. Add rum and mix. Top off with *chilled* club soda (or seltzer). Add a lemon slice and the remaining mint, and serve.
We've got everything but the club soda, and I bet I can fake it with Sprite. Oh, and lemon juice, but key limes are as tart, so....**deep breath** something to look forward to at the end of the day.
Back to watering now.
