Filling water tank again. Woo-hoo.

Am running a bit tired today, mostly being out in the heat the past two days, I think. And I overdid it yesterday--came home from work and planted four flats of stuff, plus pulling weeds to make spaces for that stuff, and watered it all in. Didn't get inside for my shower and sit-down until 8pm. (By the way, Byron, thanks again for keeping me company while I gardened. I appreciate it.) Anyhow...8 cannas, mostly red; a last flat of castor beans; a flat of potentilla; a little more basil; mixed snaps (can't turn those down, if she's just going to pitch them); 'Black Knight' peppers; a bunch of scented geraniums that just went in the ground; and some red-leafed drapy thing whose name I ought to remember, but can't. I think it's a Polygonum of some kind. Tropical, decorative, close enough.

By put in a full day with Robyn yesterday, so he didn't get much stuff from Albert. He's off to do that this morning, while it's cool. Albert's got today and tomorrow to get anything he wants or can sell out of this project, because the main demo contractor's schedule got moved up, and they're dozing it Monday. By came home with some nice old 1x8 pine boards, some very long (very long = 15'), that he wants to use as wainscotting in the new master bedroom. Also came home with some 4' lengths of 8x8 timbers....not entirely sure what they'll be used for, probably garden benches of some kind.* Timbers that size are just too useful to pitch, even short ones.

*And after last night's gardening & conversation, I've decided I need short benches, strategicly placed throughout the garden, so people can sit comfortably and be company for me while I work.

Second tank is half full, I've got the heel flap and heel extension finished on one sock and have started the gusset decreases, and the water truck has eaten two sock needles and a pencil so far this morning. (I have spares of both.)

Filling third tank. Truck returned the pencil it ate earlier, but not the sock needles. Oddness. Am halfway done with the foot of the current sock (the other is still stuck at "heel flap done"). Am knitting much slower now...between two and a half days of knitting in the truck, and hoeing weeds on Wed, and gardening last night, my hands ache. Not to that "numb enough to work at my previous speed" point, which is good and bad--good, long-term, but bad in terms of simply getting the progress done that I wish.

Talked to By a little bit ago. He's working on loading up the truck at Albert's job, then he's home to sit in the AC for a while.

I *think* I've got the design for By's firebird socks done...a stylized firebird, sitting at the ankle of the sock, with the tail falling onto the foot, and the wings wide enough to spread around to the back of the leg. I may do some sort of key pattern to fill in the rest of the back, and foot, maybe something dramatic and Persian. By had shades of blue in mind, on a dark background, so now I'm wondering if I could actually manage 3 colors per row on some of this. It'd be ever so much cooler if I could. Hmm.....must also print out more graph paper, at a smaller size, so I can get the whole @#@#$ chart on one page.
