Jul. 5th, 2005 07:42 amI have no business being up at this hour (or having been up at 7am, which I was), given the hour I put myself to bed. Bad Treeskin, no cookie. But I am awake, and hopefully, staying awake now will get to to bed at a more reasonable hour tonight. Just because I have tomorrow off, doesn't mean I can let myself get completely off schedule.
Had a pleasant 4th with a handful of people and grilled meat and good conversation. The neighbors to the south seemed to have a good 4th, blowing things up and shaking our house. Hope it didn't freak out the dogs across the street too much; they're well trained and well behaved, with responsible owners. Boyfriend didn't freak around our friends, and they seemed to like him, so that was well. (Friends were actually nice to himm, despite one's threats to "test him and see if he's good enough". By the way hon, opinions?)
By ended up at work Sat and Sun, helping Robyn finish a project they're presenting today. It won't be finished today, he said, and they'll be working on it at least part of today. Not sure what the extra hours this weekend will do to his work schedule this week. He thinks he may end up with some time off.
Am crossing my fingers and hoping for a call from Donna today or tomorrow. I ought to find out this week if the greenhouse job opens up or not. It was a little frustrating, the end of last week, when Shop Steward got the last confirmation of his new full time position from HR, and knowing that if the greenhouse job was open a similar piece of paper would be on Dr G's desk, and he was on vacation and not available to deal with it. *sigh* Think good "new job" thoughts for me, folks.
Finished By's kilt hose yesterday morning, and there was great rejoicing. Didn't have enough to do the full, deep ribbing I had wanted to do, but I did manage a deep enough ribbing that he can fold it over about an inch, and that's enough to cover the garter and flashing ribbon. **polishes nails against chest** And they do look fine....
I started graphing for T's kilt hose, and actually *gasp* started swatching patterns. My first idea for a design around the ankle (to set off the tree) won't work; the zig-zag cable doesn't have enough stretch for that part of a sock. But By opined that it might work nice as the top of the sock, so I'll save that swatch. Am swatching the tree next, because I'm having trouble dealing with the charts and figuring out how many sts I'm going to need to do that. I'm half afraid I'll need to cut it down some.
The new issue of Knitty is up--a summer issue dedicated to men of all ages. Am still looking at the offerings; commentary will come later.
